Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies (e.g. lakes, rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater), very often by human activities.
Causes of water pollution:
- Toxic substance: due to usage of herbicides, pesticides and industrial compounds.
- Oil spillage: from ships and it causes death of many fish and stick to the feathers of sea birds causing them to lose the ability to fly.
- Sewage and wastewater: which are dumped into the sea or water bodies without treatment.
Atmospheric: due to mixing of water particles with toxic substances as nitrogen and sulphur dioxide
